The Champs Invite held on Sept 22 was based at Cheadle Lake Park in Lebanon, OR and created specifically to host Oregon small schools (1A-4A). This was our team’s 4th race of the season and certainly our furthest away with a drive time of around 2 hours to get there. But it was worth it!
All of our ladies (4) participated in the varsity event and all of our men (5) were also in varsity.
Annika (10th grade) placed 8 of 49 with a time of 24:26 (just 5 seconds shy of her personal record). Lia (10th grade) was #21 at 27:07. Ruth (11th grade) #28 at 29:14. Sophia (9th grade) #44 of 49 with a time of 35:00.
For the men Gabe Cowley (11th grade) came in 18:40 smashing last year’s season record by a minute and this year’s previous personal best by 52 seconds earning him a place of 6 out of 64. Luke M (10th grade) was our next runner with a time of 21:25, a season record for him, placing 34 of 64. Gabe Canfield (10th grade) was at 21:45, 40 of 64, just 1 second off of his personal best from 2 weeks ago. This was Dominic’s (10th grade) first race of the season as he was recovering from an injury. He placed 43 of 64 with a time of 22:02. Tovi (9th grade) was at 23:18, 54 of 64.
This was our first race of the season in which we had enough runners to place as a team. We placed 7 out of 8 with a score of 151. Eleven schools participated in the varsity event which means several smaller schools did not have enough runners to count as an official team.
Our next meet is Nike Portland at Portland Meadows on Sept 29th. Last year’s meet drew over 225 middle and high schools and 6000+ athletes from eight states.
