Oregon Cross Country State Championship

On Saturday Nov 9th Trinity Academy’s team Thunder was represented for the first time ever at the state championship, hosted at Lane Community College in Eugene. Luke Frechette, a junior, placed fifth at the district meet last week and spent this past week training hard, mostly on his own, preparing for state. In the 1A/2A meet he competed against 75 other athletes from all over the state.

Luke, as usual, set out quickly at the start of the race and established himself into the top 10 group with mile splits around 5 minutes and 9 seconds. He managed to maintain his position throughout the race and by the time he hit the track for the final 300 meters of the race his position as #8 was looking like a sure thing with a finishing time of 16:33.

Congratulations to Luke for a race well run and an entire season he can be proud of! We had so many athletes this season that worked extremely hard to improve physically, mentally and emotionally and they were all there in spirit with Luke even if they didn’t make the trip in person. Gabe and Luke J were teammates who managed to make the trip (thanks to parent coaches!). Several others were following with the live results.

Luke will head next weekend to the regional event hosted by Nike in Boise, Idaho. He will be traveling and running as an individual with two other classical Christian schools from the Portland area, athletes he has become very familiar with this season at many races.

I’ve included just one or two photos from the 1A/2A/3A girl’s race just to show our ladies what we have to look forward to in the future!
