Astoria

The days surrounding Christmas and New Years are a little bit like summer vacation: the kids are out of school and you just want them to stay somewhat busy. Same goes for us parents. We want a break from the same old same old so off to Astoria it was on Monday to see something new.

I had been before, part of a class trip for Gabe’s school when he was in 9th grade. It gave me just enough exposure to know I wanted to return, but we already had our favorite spots along the coast we usually hit up whether a several day stay or a day trip from Portland.

The plan was to pick up Tessa’s friend since she lived along one of the routes that we could take. We would hit up Buoy Beer Co. for lunch, hike the Cathedral Tree trail up to the Astoria tower, walk the streets of town just a bit and grab a coffee. We found a cool antique mall while waiting in the cue for lunch. Five hours well spent, albeit muddy along the trail.
